Account Alerts & Notifications

Your phone buzzes the moment a large withdrawal hits, a deposit clears, or someone tries logging in from an unfamiliar device. That is what SCU account alerts deliver — awareness without the worry.

Protection & Security

Real-time monitoring tools that put you in control of every dollar that moves.

Configure Alerts in Under Five Minutes

Log into online banking, open the Alerts section under Settings, and start checking boxes. For each alert type, select whether you want SMS, email, or push notification delivery — you can layer all three if you prefer. Thresholds are adjustable in real time, and you can pause alerts temporarily without deleting your preferences.

The most commonly enabled alerts — balance updates, large transactions, and login notifications — are pre-configured with sensible defaults that most members keep as-is. You are never locked into a configuration; adjustments take effect the moment you save them.

Every Alert Type, Every Account

Alert preferences are set per account, not globally. That means your checking account can trigger a notification for every debit over $200, while your savings account only alerts when the balance drops below a threshold you specify. Loan accounts can notify you when a payment posts or when a due date approaches.

All alerts are provided at no charge by SCU. SMS delivery may incur standard carrier messaging rates. Security alerts are enabled by default and cannot be fully disabled — at minimum, login-from-new-device alerts remain active.

Security Alerts Are Non-Negotiable

Certain alert categories — login from a new device, password changes, and contact information updates — remain active for every account by design. These guardrails ensure that even if someone gains access to your credentials, you will know about it within seconds, not days. If you receive a security alert you did not trigger, call (218) 555-0147 immediately.

The National Credit Union Administration recommends enabling all available account alerts as a core practice for protecting your deposits against unauthorized access.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of account alerts does SCU offer?
SCU provides balance alerts, transaction alerts for debits and credits above custom thresholds, deposit confirmations, security alerts for logins and password changes, bill pay notifications, wire transfer alerts, debit card transaction notifications, and loan payment reminders. Every alert type can be independently toggled and customized per account.
How do I set up account alerts?
Sign into online banking and go to Settings, then Alerts. Check each alert type you want active, choose your delivery method (SMS, email, or push), and set dollar thresholds where applicable. Your selections save immediately. If you prefer assistance, call member services at (218) 555-0147 and a representative will walk you through setup.
Are there charges for receiving account alerts?
No. SCU provides all alert services free of charge. Email and push notifications incur no cost from either SCU or your device platform. SMS text alerts are also free from SCU, but your mobile carrier may apply standard messaging rates depending on your cellular plan.
Can I set different thresholds for checking versus savings?
Yes. Alert preferences are configured per individual account. You might set a $100 debit alert on checking but a $500 threshold on savings. Security alerts, such as new-device login notifications, apply globally across your entire online banking profile to ensure consistent protection.
What should I do about a security alert I did not trigger?
Call SCU member services at (218) 555-0147 without delay. Our fraud team can immediately lock your account, investigate the suspicious activity, and help you reset credentials.
